Industrial Hygiene in Healthcare

Industrial hygienists find themselves in a unique position within the healthcare industry. Traditionally, healthcare focused on patient safety, where industrial hygienist takes the safety of patients, staff and visitors into consideration.

To achieve this, extensive collaborative relationships are established with Infection Prevention, Construction, Facilities Management and Employee Health Services to drive a culture of safety.  This presentation will summarize the potential hazards present in the healthcare setting and how the principles of industrial hygiene are applied to mitigate them.

Presenter: Evan Rousseau, MPH, MS, CIH, CSP

Evan is a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and an OSHA Authorized Construction Industry Trainer.  In his role as Director of Industrial Hygiene and Workforce Safety, he leads a team of safety professionals who perform qualitative and quantitative industrial hygiene assessments.  His team specialties include developing sampling plans, area and personal exposure monitoring for chemical and physical hazards and ventilation assessments. His team partners with internal clients to service their industrial hygiene and training needs to include OSHA 10 and 30 Hour Construction Industry Training.  His current projects include supporting respiratory protection training and respirator alternatives in response to COVID-19.  Evan holds a Master’s in Public Health, a Master’s of Science in Information Systems and Bachelors of Arts in Chemistry. Evan has also served in the United States Army and Army Reserves.
