With oversight from the Chemical Hygiene Officer, the Research Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting health and safety programs in campus research facilities, with a focus on risk reduction.   The primary function of the position is to provide effective and efficient delivery of EHS services to multi-disciplinary research areas.  S/he will assist in the development, and implementation of procedures and programs that promote a safe, responsible, healthful and compliant work environmental for the research areas.  All programs under this position’s function must be in a sustainable state of “in-control and capable” functionality.  The position will perform functions supporting the Cornell University Research Safety programs for the Ithaca campus and outlying facilities, except for the Weill Medical College & Qatar.


EH&S Specialist – Safety and Environmental Compliance – Stony Brook University

The Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialist for Environmental Compliance ensures compliance with a variety of Federal, State, and local environmental regulations and permits, including but not limited to air, water, sewer, oil and chemical storage, spills and remediation, etc. by performing environmental sampling, conducting inspections and site surveys, providing training, maintaining records, and coordinate program activities with contractors and other departments.  This position reports to the Safety, Training and Environmental Compliance Manager and will assist with the development of policies and procedures, and in other EH&S programs as assigned.
