Kevin Hyms

Kevin grew up in Lake Ronkonkoma and has resided there for the past 49 years.  He graduated from Sachem High School and chose to continue his education at Stony Brook University earning a B.S. degree in Chemistry in 1977.  Kevin continued his education at New York Institute of Technology earning an M.B.A. in Management in 1986.  He continued additional education obtaining national certification as a Certified Safety Professional in 1989.  Kevin is a Professional Member of the ASSE for over 30 years and has served the Long Island Chapter as a Past Delegate and Treasurer.  Kevin has worked as an environmental, health and safety engineer.

Kevin puts the community ahead of politics and has been very active with local issues affecting the residents.  When his 2 children attended school in Sachem, Kevin served three separate stints as PTA President and held a variety of positions on the PTA Council.  He has served on the Board of the Ronkonkoma Chamber of Commerce for the past 10 years as Treasurer and Secretary.  He also handles Government relations and is Chair of the Scholarship Committee.  Kevin also represents the Chamber on the Brookhaven Coalition of Chambers, the Suffolk County Alliance of Chambers, the Anti-Bias Task Force and the Suffolk County Legislature’s Lake Ronkonkoma Advisory Board.  In 2015, Kevin secured funding from the Suffolk County Department of Economic Development and Planning for the Downtown Revitalization Grant for Hawkins Avenue in Lake Ronkonkoma.  In academia, Kevin serves on the New York Institute of Technology’s School of Management’s Advisory Board.   Kevin is also a big advocate for senior citizens and the disabled, having served on the Boards of the Suffolk Independent Living Organization (SILO), Handicapped Adults New Directions in Suffolk (HANDS) and has been an active volunteer and advocate with AARP.  He has also run for political office, during 2007 for Brookhaven Town Council and again in 2017 for Suffolk County Legislator.
