William Dempsey is the Director of Safety & Emergency Services at Northwell Health Southside Hospital. Bill has been a Registered Nurse since May of 2005. He is responsible for day to day operations pertaining to the Fire & Life Safety, Environment of Care, and Emergency Management of the facility. Bill serves as the Chair of the Safety & Emergency Management Committees. He is an active member of the Suffolk County Terrorism Response Task Force and the Suffolk County ESF8 Committee. Bill is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP). Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional (CHEP) as well as a Certified Healthcare Safety Nurse (CHSN).
In June of 2008, he became a member of the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) New York 2. His role on the DMAT team is a Registered Nurse &Security Specialist. In September 2008 he was deployed to San Antonio, Texas for Hurricane Ike. And in2009 he was deployed Washington D.C. for the Presidential Inauguration.
Prior to working in healthcare, Bill was a NYC Police Officer assigned to the Emergency Services Unit (ESU). In 1997 he was assigned to the NYPD’S Emergency Service Units Specialized Training School, where he was assigned as a Scuba and Hazardous Materials instructor. He is a NYS Hazardous Materials Specialist as well as a PADI Master Scuba Instructor. Bill was also a member of the Urban Search and Rescue Task Force Team (USAR) NY 1.
